The Project

£2.65M of funding has been secured from the Government to make improvements in Tonbridge.

The vision for the project is to upgrade the High Street environment and support Tonbridge’s regeneration, creating an attractive shopping area and enhancing the town’s historic areas. Traffic flow through the High Street will be improved, and a more pedestrian friendly environment created.

Developed by Kent County Council and Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council, the scheme involves widening and resurfacing pavements along with a range of other improvements between the Vale Road roundabout to the Big Bridge. Additional elements of the project include high quality street furniture and signage, improved road surface, establishing defined delivery areas and a 20mph speed limit.

Following consultation with residents and local businesses, the first phase of the works started in August 2015.
